Precision Aligners

Precision aligners are a clear aligner orthodontic system used to straighten teeth. Unlike traditional braces, which are metal brackets and wires, the aligners are made of a clear, thermoplastic material.

Precision Aligners

A precision aligner is a custom-made, clear tray that you wear over your teeth to realign them over time. They’re a popular choice for minor misalignment. Your orthodontist will use 3D scans and impressions to determine the exact positioning of your teeth and create the aligners. Precision aligners are an option for adults who have only minor orthodontic issues. They are not suitable for major bite or alignment problems. Your orthodontist will be able to tell you if precision aligners are suitable for you.

You wear the aligners for up to 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat and clean them. As you go through your treatment, you’ll change to a new set of aligners every few weeks until your teeth have been repositioned to their ideal position. Once you’ve completed your treatment, you’ll be given a retainer to wear at night to keep your teeth in their new position.

With traditional metal braces, it takes around two years to move your teeth into perfect alignment. However, with the precision of digital scanning, precision aligners can shift your teeth into place in just six months in many cases. This makes them an ideal option for busy adults who want to straighten their teeth quickly.

How Are Precision Aligners Made?

First, your orthodontist will take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab. The impressions will be sent to the lab, where the technicians will be able to create your clear aligners. This part of the process can take several days to complete. Once completed, the aligners will be sent back to your dentist’s office. You will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks at a time before moving on to the next set in the series. Each aligner should move you closer to your ideal smile.

Advantages of Precision Aligners

Precision aligners are custom-made to fit your teeth precisely in the order your treatment plan calls for, moving them gradually into the final position you’ll be happy with at the end of treatment. Here are a few of the advantages you’ll enjoy with precision aligners.

  • Removable - You can take your aligners out whenever you need to, meaning you won’t have to change your diet or oral hygiene routines to accommodate them. You can also remove them for brief periods throughout the day, such as when you’re eating a meal, practicing good dental hygiene, or engaging in your favorite activities. This helps the aligners work as efficiently as possible while allowing you to live your life normally.
  • Comfortable - The smooth plastic trays won’t irritate your mouth the way metal brackets can. And because the aligners are clear, most people won’t even be able to tell you’re wearing them.
  • Convenient - The aligners are easily removed, making it easy for you to eat whatever you like without worrying about breaking or bending the wires of your braces. This also makes it easy to clean your teeth properly. Simply remove the aligners and clean your teeth as you normally would before putting them back in again.
  • Effective - These aligners have successfully moved teeth into the correct positions for several patients, making them a trusted orthodontic treatment option. You’ll love the results you can get from wearing these comfortable aligners!
